The study is devoted to the analysis of differences and similarities in the political orientations of representatives of the baby boomers and millennial generations in a difficult geopolitical situation. A survey (N = 969) was used, which included the methods “Justification of the Social System” (J.T. Jost), the screening version of the time perspective questionnaire by F. Zimbardo, “The short version of the scales of the J. Duckitt’s method”, author's questionnaires by T.A. Nestik “Attitude towards traditional values”, “Feelings of pride and shame for the country”, “The image of the future domestic and foreign policy of the state”, “Social identity”, “Social optimism”, “Trust in social institutions”, etc. The purpose of the study is to reveal the content transmission of political orientations in Russian society on the example of two generations. Comparison of the political orientations of the two generational groups (baby boomers N = 434 and millennials N = 535) made it possible to identify their positions of solidarity, which is interpreted as the result of the transmission of certain orientations that ensure the stability of the political mentality of the nation – these are the values of a safe and just society (security, justice, order, legality, freedom, stability), faith in a positive common historical past and orientation towards a positive future, the same level of justification of the system, the high value of faith in a dangerous world, behind which is the desire for security and the preservation of social order. Significant differences were also found in the political orientations of the two generations in matters of peacefulness, the expediency of joining new territories, supporting traditional values, identification with the country, the need for centralization or decentralization of power, etc. These differences are associated with the specifics of the political socialization of generations. The limitations and prospects of the study are determined.
