In the article “Cyber-Creativity: A Decalogue of Research Challenges”, a team of 24 researchers from different countries and diverse fields of expertise focuses its analysis on the problem of cyber-creativity – the fruitful collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence (AI) – discussing it in the context of cultural evolution. The potential of AI and its possible applications in human creative activity are examined from two opposing perspectives: on the one hand, identifying ways to maximize the advantages of AI, and on the other, seeking to minimize the risks associated with its development. Within this framework, both utopian and dystopian scenarios are presented. In the former, AI does not replace but significantly enhances human creativity; in the latter, its rapid growth threatens to displace human creative activity altogether.
The aim of the publication is to help humanity, in its interaction with AI, choose and implement the positive (utopian) scenario, thereby avoiding dystopia.
On the basis of a collective and interdisciplinary analysis, the authors identify a decalogue of research challenges that support the stated goal: (1) The theoretical foundations of cyber-creativity; (2) Sociocultural perspectives; (3) The process of cyber-creativity; (4) The agent of creativity; (5) The team of co-creators; (6) The products of cyber-creativity; (7) The domains of cyber-creativity; (8) Cyber-creative education; (9) Ethical aspects of cyber-creativity; (10) The dark side of cyber-creativity.
The authors conclude that a deeper understanding of AI’s development prospects and its alignment with human values in the domain of creative activity is urgently needed.
