From the Editor
Editor-in-chief of the journal «New psychological research» T. D. Martsinkovskaya, Moscow, 8 July 2023
Dear colleagues, I am glad to present the second issue of our journal.
Unfortunately, this number turned out to be not very large, which was due to the problems of switching to a new site. I am sure that the next issue will be much more meaningful.
Article by R.A. Eremin “Mindfulness as a coping with the "fear of missing out" in social networks” is devoted to a little-studied phenomenon, which is currently becoming more common due to an increase in the number of social network users. In connection with the growing number of people who are afraid of missing out something important, the need to diagnose this syndrome is also becoming more urgent. The value of the article by R.A. Eremin is in the theoretical analysis of modern approaches to this phenomenon. Of particular importance is the result of testing and validation of the scale, which measures the phenomenon of the “fear of missing out syndrome”, the three-factor structure of the construct that was identified and described.
Article by N.A. Pasternak “The ability to act "in the mind" and working memory: what factors influence the success of learning”. The results obtained by the author showed that the low level of development of the ability to act “in the mind” limits the ability to successfully complete the test for working memory. These materials are important not only for clarifying the volume of working memory, but also for the psychological analysis of the educational process.
An article by a young researcher D.D. Antonov “Features of the dynamic stability of the personality of students-psychologists” is devoted to a comparative analysis of the relationship between the potential for self-change and existential fulfillment among students receiving psychological and technical education. The results obtained are important for understanding the relationship between the educational profile and personal characteristics. The research materials also clarify the connection between the two constructs – the potential for self-change and existential fulfillment.
In the Book Review two reviews of Norwegian psychology made by M.S. Guseltseva are of a great interest. The first one covers in detail the book of the Norwegian social psychologist Ole Madsen, who analyzes the socialization of the younger generations in the conditions of the modern information society. In the second one, not only the materials of modern Norwegian psychology based on the periodical journals are revealed, but also the analysis of the specifics of Norwegian psychological science is given.
N.Yu. Fedunina presented a review of John Steiner's book “Seeing and Being Seen: Emerging from a Psychic Retreat|”, in which he develops his concept of “psychic retreat”.
