The theoretical justification for the study of identity in general and, in particular, professional identity is discussed in the article. An empirical study of the professional identity of respondents and an analysis of various types of identity are presented. The study involved three groups of students from different professional communities. The number of respondents was 60 people aged 19 to 27 years. The study was conducted on the same sample in two stages: in 2020 (at the beginning of the Covid pandemic) and in 2022. In 2020, a study was conducted on the characteristics of the territorial, socio-cultural, ethnic and linguistic identities of students. In 2022, we conducted a questionnaire to identify current professional self-realization and future plans of the respondents in their profession. An analysis was made of the expected professional future of the respondents in 2020 and their current situation in 2022. The results of the study showed that all mathematics teachers now have jobs in their profession. Among linguists and psychologists there are also those students who work by profession. Many respondents from all three groups emphasize the benefits of the Covid pandemic which has changed their professional activities and helped them start working online. As a result, it expanded their professional space using modern platforms. It was revealed that many mathematicians are now satisfied with their place of residence in Russia (and, accordingly, the place for realizing themselves in the profession) and do not plan to change it in the near future. And many future linguists and psychologists also intend to move to other countries for self-realization in the future, but to a lesser extent than two years ago.
