Metacognitive processes are associated with knowledge about one’s own cognitive processes and the possibility of their regulation. They expand the ability to understand ourselves, regulate how we learn, choose, solve problems, interact with others, all of which increase the efficiency of our activities and help to avoid unnecessary costs and injuries. Despite the predominant development in the field of education, sports psychologists and practitioners are increasingly turning to this category of processes, noting their importance for optimizing the learning processes in sports, as well as improving sports performance. The article presents the experience of developing a questionnaire for evaluating metacognitive components of sports activity. The stages of questionnaire development are described. The approbation was carried out on a sample of 138 test subjects, athletes of various qualifications and sports. Using the methods of exploratory factor analysis and structural modeling, a consistent model of 6 factors was identified. The values of the alpha-Kronbach and roe Reikov indices are > 0.7, which also indicates the high reliability of the developed methodology. The following factors were identified: targeted organization of sports activities, adaptation to changes in the sports situation, formation of a sports mood, monitoring in situations of errors and difficulties, analysis and evaluation of sports activities, metacognitive experiences. Based on the data of the in-depth interview, which served as a preliminary stage in the development of the questionnaire, the features of each of the listed factors in relation to the psychological components of sports activity are revealed, and their connection with the general psychological and sports psychology-specific concepts of the flow state, executive functions, time experience, and the structure of action is discussed. The application contains the text of the questionnaire, as well as keys for data processing.
